Somewhere I learned that an ounce of planning prevented a pound of aspirin.  When you are planning an opportunity call here are six tips to create the synergy you need.

Set a date and time at least two weeks in advance.  You will want time to promote the call with your prospects as well as teach your team to do the same.

Secure and share the conference call number.  There are lots of free calling numbers.  One we like is www.freeconferencecalling.com. They offer an HD 1000 line with easy recording and dashboard.

Pick speakers in advance. Know your agenda and find different team members to weave the story you want to tell about your opportunity.  Give them time limits to avoid rambling. Set a time with them to rehearse so the call goes well.  Remind them that with this role, they will want to have lots of prospects on the phone.

Have a gift or drawing for each guest who attends the call.  Many of my clients do a drawing for product among all the guests.  Others offer a coupon or free shipping on the next order.  It is nice to have something in exchange for their time, but not a requisite.  We find that it is more for your team to have something to offer.  “I want you to hear about our company and you will receive ___.”

Teach your team how to invite.  Don’t assume that your team members know how to invite or how to increase the dial-ins.  Give them language like “I am only allowed to have x people on the line, so if you can’t attend I need three-day notice.” Be sure they don’t “trick” anyone into dialing in by giving them words to say. Some leaders have their team members call and three-way their prospect to the opportunity call.

Teach your team how to follow-up.  They will need to know what to do and say after the call to enroll their prospects.  Watch for an upcoming article about follow-up.

Preparation is a key to the success of your call.  You want prospects, not just team members listening in.  You want a smooth call that is compelling and uplifting.  Use an opportunity call to create a campaign for recruiting.
