Just how do you connect with people as they flow past your booth, many with a glazed over look in their eye? All the colors, noise and sights in a long row of booths can create over stimulation.

Engagement is the key! You need to connect first.

  • Eye contact will help break through that deer in the headlights look.
  • Be sure to stand in the front of your booth, not behind the table. The table puts a barrier between you and your next customer.
  • Ask a question, one that requires more than a yes or no answer.

LEAD with a genuine interest, not the product itself.

  • What fair food have you tried today?
  • WOW, keeping up with three little ones at this home show must be a challenge. How do you keep them in tow?  Maybe say: Come on over, I have _____ for each of them. (Sample, handout, etc.)
  • I LOVE that hat you are wearing. Did you find it here at the show? Which booth?
  • Now there is fun loving group. Do you always get together on Friday night? What fun things do you do?
  • What is your favorite thing to see at Home Shows?
  • Talk to the kids, the parents will follow!

Events are where we meet people. Do something to show up differently than any one else at the event. Let people know you appreciate them and are genuinely interested in who they are. It all starts with a connection that leads to conversation.

*BONUS TIP* If you will be at the event all day, bring a bar height stool to sit on, NEVER sit in a chair! You want to always be at eye level with the people walking by. Remember, it begins with eye contact!
