How many leaders have you promoted so far in 2021?  Are you satisfied with that number? Have you been wondering how you can get on the promoting fast track?

Here are five steps you can take to make sure that happens.

  1. Set a promoting goal. Ask yourself, “How many would I promote in the next six weeks if I knew I wouldn’t fail? Write it down and commit to making it happen!  Share the goal with your team. Let them know you are looking for people who are ready to step up to become a leader. At every meeting, in every communication, and on every call, cast the vision of the benefits of becoming a leader.
  2. Build a big pool of future leaders. Look for future leader prospects everywhere. Have a list of 20 candidates at all times. Commit to having five leadership conversations a week, and you will build your future leader pool fast. Set target dates, learn their “what and why,” and make action plans with those who want to promote. The more you have in your pool to work with, the more you’ll promote in 6 weeks.
  3. Publicize your future leader list. Communicate to your whole team the names of who will be promoting along with their target date. Recognize your future leaders on your Facebook page, conference calls, webinars, and recognize them at your meetings.
  4. Stick like glue to your futures. Once they’ve set a target date, talk to them every day. Find out what went well, what they learned, and what they’ll do differently. Ask, “What are your next steps tomorrow?” Set the time for the next call. Remember, these are 5-minute calls. They need to hear your voice every day, and you need to listen to theirs.
  5. Focus! Focus! Focus! Ask yourself throughout the day, “Is what I’m doing right now promoting managers?” If not, stop doing it and get back on track.

Promoting leaders is the fastest way to grow your team. When you keep the “main thing the main thing” for the next six weeks, you will also be sharing the greatest gift you have to offer, the opportunity for others to grow into leadership.

We know that you have a question.  Every leader does. It’s that question that lets you do something about what you read. It’s the question between curiosity and action.  You just aren’t sure who you can ask.
