As a direct selling leader have you ever felt like you wanted it more than they did? You just know they can do it and continually pour yourself into them, yet they don’t seem to step up to the plate? Frustrating, huh?

Ken’s quote speaks truth, but there is another piece to the puzzle. They have to want it. As a leader, how do you put the puzzle together?

Communicate your belief

Belief builds confidence. If you truly believe they can do it, look them in the eye and tell them. Be sure to tell them what it is about who they are that creates your belief in them. Focus on their success qualities.

Be clear about what they want and why

As a leader, it’s your job to help people achieve what THEY want, not what YOU want for them. So, take the time to ask them what they want. If their actions are not matching up to what they said they want, point it out. Ask them if what they want has changed. Check out the blogs here that help you connect their want with their why.

Agree on their commitment 

Once you are both clear about what they want, talk about what it will take to achieve. Then assess their commitment. If they are not willing to do what it takes, then take another look at their goals and match what they want to what they are willing to do. You will both be happier celebrating achieved goals and being disappointed by striving for goals that are unachievable or unwanted.

As a leader, it is your job to cast a vision of what is possible, let them know you believe they are capable and then let them decide what they want. You will discover that when you communicate your belief in what they want they will take more action and they may just end up wanting what you want for them!
