By Dana Phillips.

Have you ever wanted to give up and quit?  I know the feeling. There have been times in my life journey that I wanted to do just that.  During those times, my motivation hit a low, and I didn’t want to do anything.  This is not a fun place to be, and I learned that I had to find a way to get out of my funk and move forward quickly.

Here are four things that helped me get back on track:

  • Figure out why you feel that way. Those feelings are real! Ask yourself questions like: Am I tired? Do I have the knowledge and ability to do what needs to be done? Am I dealing with unexpected life difficulties? Am I doing too much? Am I taking care of myself?  Take time to find the real issues. Once you see what is causing the feeling, you can address it. Don’t give up!
  • Re-visit your What and Why. Is it the same, or has it changed? Take time to get a clear picture again. Once you have clarity, you’ll find it’s hard to give up on your dreams and goals. What I found in taking this step was it re-ignited my motivation and reminded me of why I began in the first place. Breathe in deep and feel it. Don’t give up!
  • Fine-tune your schedule. Look at your schedule with new eyes! Are you prioritizing? How much are you delegating? Are you blocking out time to get priorities done? Have you scheduled time for relaxation and refueling? When I did this, it simplified my schedule and cleared my mind of things that weren’t important or that I could delegate. By having my calendar complete, I could focus on what needed to be done to reach my goals. Don’t give up!
  • Celebrate your Successes. Make a list of all the successes you’ve had along the way. Celebrate them all!  When I did this, I felt my energy return, and I was excited to move forward toward my dreams and goals.  Don’t give up!
  • Bonus Idea:  Talk to a Coach.  The first four ideas have a lot of questions for you to answer.  Your coach can help you explore your answers, stop the excuses, and figure out what will work for you.

As Winston Churchill once said, “Never, Never, Never, Never give up.”
