When you know you want to contact people to host a party or set an appointment, here are ten little steps that will get you closer to your goal.  If you find yourself procrastinating, try to remember this little adage.  I am calling because I care.  Taking the focus off yourself and put it on the people that you are calling. You will find that you have a terrific mindset for contacting people.

  1. Before you start, review the benefits to the person on the other end of the call.
  2. Make a list of people to call with numbers.
  3. Find a place to make calls that is neat and quiet (when I had three kids under five, the bathroom worked).
  4. Find a time set aside for your calling (thirty minutes is plenty).
  5. Make sure you have your calendar with dates when you are available.
  6. Remember to smile before you pick up the phone (trying to say “Hi this is …” not smiling and smiling: you can hear the difference).
  7. Be positive!  Remember what you are offering others.  See number 1.
  8. Don’t be afraid of “No.”  Everyone gets a no.  They are saying no to the idea, not you.
  9. If they say now is not a good time, ask permission to stay in touch and find out when would be a good time to reconnect with them.
  10. Please make sure you thank everyone you speak to and let them know that you appreciate their business.
