I hear it all the time:

“I want to be a better leader.”

“I want to make more money.”

“I want to advance.”

While there is no silver bullet, here are three ways to grow your leadership, and because you are growing, you will advance and make more money.

  1. STOP MAKING IT ABOUT YOU. Of course, you want things like income and recognition from your business, but when it is always about you, what you want, what you need, and how you feel, you will not sustain any kind of success. In direct sales, you deal with a volunteer sales team, a volunteer customer base, and a volunteer set of friends who might help you. Shift your thinking and paradigm, and realize that if you help other people get what they want and need, you will get all you need. I heard a speaker last week. She said, here is a picture of a bridge, “GET OVER IT!”
  2. MAKE YOURSELF LEARN AND TRY NEW THINGS. We used to be told, “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” Ask Kodak, Timex, GTE (remember phone books), and a whole host of companies how that worked for them. Look, I understand that many of you reading this might fear technology, trying new things, embracing social media (really, truly embracing it). I get it! I have watched many of my direct-selling friends go down in flames because they refuse to learn new things. My speaker last week held up a drinking straw and said, “SUCK IT UP.”
  3. WORK ON THE INCOME-PRODUCING ACTIVITIES. If you need to meet more people, get out and do it. If you need to hold more parties, do it. If you need to promote more leaders and you don’t have anyone, you need to find new people or inspire the ones you have. Be so busy working on income-producing activities that you DON’T HAVE TIME to be reactive, babysit, listen to whining, or spend hours surfing Facebook. Set a time to work on those income-producing activities that require your personality and follow through with your plan. The speaker didn’t have a gift for this one, so I am holding up a box of ExLax and reminding you to “KEEP MOVING.”

You can do this. Read this list every day and stay focused. You deserve success! Give it your best every single day, and remember, we are right here for you on the journey!
