Performance coaches abound in many fields of top players. Any athlete who competes at a high level has a performance coach.  If you think about people training for the Olympics, they wouldn’t dream of working without a coach. Most professional musicians and artist use performance coaches on a regular basis.

Many corporations provide performance coaching for those in management, sales, and upcoming managers.  In fact the Office of Personnel Management advocates for a coach approach.  “Performance coaching is an ongoing process which helps build and maintain effective employee and supervisory relationships. Performance coaching can help identify an employee’s growth, as well as help plan and develop new skills.”

So how can performance coaching support a direct seller?  We believe that as a direct seller grows a team, moves from personal selling and sponsoring to leading a team, performance coaching can be a major advantage. Here are four areas where coaching can support a direct selling leader to better team relationships, team building, and productivity.

Planning: Are you expert at planning your own schedule, balancing personal and business time, juggling personal and business time? Are you terrific at knowing what your team needs at any given moment?  A performance coach works with you to become more effective.

Organizing: Are you adept at organizing paperwork, contacts, and emails?  Do you have duplicable systems for effective recruiting, promoting, selling?  A performance coach works with you to bring out your best systems so that others can follow your lead.

Directing: Even though your team is self-employed, and effective leader must learn to direct (or not direct).  Are you the best you can be at directing the success of those you lead?  A performance coach works with you to become excellent at giving directions, targeting, and pointing your team in the right direction.

Inspiring: Before you say, “Oh I am really good at this!” What systems do you use to ensure your inspiration is effectively tapping into your team members’ internal motivations?  If I asked one of your low performing leaders if you inspire them, what would they say about you?  A performance coach works with you to take wonderful encouragement, praise, and cheerleading into great inspiration that moves people to action.

Any direct seller who seeks to lead with vision, excellence, and results will benefit from a coach.  What is stopping you?
