By Neil Phillips.

It’s easy to be grateful when everything’s going great. What happens when life throws you a curveball? Maybe it’s the loss of a loved one, a struggling business, an unexpected illness, or health issues for yourself or someone close to you.

We all go through the ups and downs of life. So, how do we deal with it all? For me, finding things to be grateful for every day has made the difference. When I stop thinking about what I don’t have or what’s not going well and start thinking about what I do have and what’s good in my life, my whole outlook, and attitude change.

I’ve always been grateful for my blessings, my family, my wife, my career, our great life, and so much more. And I’m thankful to God for them.

I’ve realized that I won’t always make every goal I set out to achieve. (LOL:  Just like I won’t read every book in my library.)  I’m learning now to be grateful for everything around me, wherever I am, all the time. I see the beauty God created in a beautiful sunset, changing colors on the trees, a sunny day or great cloud formations, rainbows, a smooth, clear lake, the ocean (when I’m at the beach), great songs, or beautiful music. These are gifts from God as he paints them for me on his canvas. When I see His blessings, I thank Him right away. I’ve found that my spirits are lifted immediately, and negative thoughts are replaced with gratitude.

For me, expressing my gratitude means counting my blessings, saying thank you a lot, and thanking God throughout the day for everything. This gives me peace of mind and has made a difference in how I live my life.
