(This is part one of a three-part series on Be a Rocket Launcher: Onboarding Strong Recruits)

How did your business capture her attention?

What does she want your business to do for her?

What does she know about what’s possible to achieve?

How big is her why?

What is she willing to commit to her success?

Engaging your recruits becomes easy if you uncover the answers to the questions above. Rocket launchers take the time to connect new recruits and build a relationship. As Zig Ziglar taught us, “You can get everything you want in life if you just help enough other people get what they want.” First, you have to know what she wants and why she wants it.

Help her paint the picture of what life will look like when she achieves what she wants. You might even help her take her vision to the next level with a story of someone who achieved what she wants and went on to an even greater goal. Try out a few of these questions:

“How will your life be different when _________?”

“Who will be affected by your success?”

“What will you feel like when you achieve _________?”

Help your recruit see what it will take to achieve what she wants. And don’t hold back! Nothing sets someone up for failure like a watered down plan of action. Once this is clear, be sure to ask her if she is willing to do what is required to achieve her goal. If she says no, assure her that it is okay and talk about what she can achieve with what she is willing to commit to her success. Ask questions like this:

“What sacrifices are you willing to make to achieve your dream?”

“Is this new goal enough to get you excited to work hard?”

“Do you believe it’s possible?”

“Do you believe you can do it?”

Helping your recruit drill down to what she wants, why she wants it and what it will take to get there will engage her in her success. You will have the knowledge to support her by keeping her connected to what she wants. You will be able to help her set realistic expectations. And above all, you will build a bond of trust and a relationship that will keep her connected to you.
