When building a business, there are times when you have to do things that make you uncomfortable. Asking people to have a party, set an appointment, or join your business may be some of those things. Let’s think about it; one of the reasons you don’t want to do this may be because you’re afraid of getting a “no.”  None of us like to hear that word when offering the services or product that we represent. Sometimes the “no” shuts us down and makes us not want to ask anyone else.

Here are some thoughts to remember to help you handle rejection.

It’s not about you!  When you ask someone to host, set an appointment or join your business, it’s not about you!  Make the call about the other person, their needs, and what your product or business can do for them.  It’s not about your needs, income, another booking, or recruit. It’s about what you can offer them to solve a problem or make their life easier.

Don’t take it personally.  They aren’t saying no to you or saying no, I don’t like you. They are saying no to the idea of what you are offering them. There are many reasons why someone isn’t ready to have that party, appointment, or join your business right now.

Change your attitude about “no’s.”  A “no” doesn’t necessarily mean “no” forever, just not right now. Sometimes it means that she wants more information to make a decision. In any case, explore it by asking questions, and you’ll understand where she’s coming from and how you can best serve her.

Keep on asking. The more “no’s” you get, the closer you’re getting to a “yes.”  Challenge yourself to go for 100 “no’s.”  You’ll find that you can’t get there without filling up your calendar with appointments, parties, or new team members. Persistence pays as you keep asking and moving forward.

You will always get more “no’s” than “yes’s.”  Accept it and keep on asking. You’ll find your business will keep on growing when you do!

What do you do to handle rejection?
