I learned from experience what it’s like to be unprepared for the summer months. My first summer as a leader taught me a big lesson. I had lots of fun doing activities with the kids, vacationing to the lake, and enjoying several camping trips. It was all fun except for the income loss. I hadn’t planned when to work my business, and my income went way down. That was not fun.

I had to learn how to keep my business going while having fun with the family. How could I do both? When I shared my dilemma with my leader, she said, “You can have fun with your family in the summer and keep your business strong. Just because the kids are out of school doesn’t mean you must be out of work. It just takes some planning ahead, and you’ll find you can do both.”

She shared three things with me that kept my business strong every summer.

  • May is the month to plan. Begin by deciding when you’ll work and schedule it in your family calendar. Begin to set up childcare for those times now. Plan vacations, weekend trips, and all activities for the kids around your work schedule and schedule them in your calendar. When you block out times to work and times to play, you’ll find out that you can have a fun and productive summer.
  • Recruit like crazy! May is the month to ramp up recruiting to ensure your summer months are stellar. New consultants beginning the fast-track program in May or June will keep working, and their sales will keep your team’s volume strong. Set a goal with your team for a new recruiting record in May or June.
  • Overbook! Book more parties or appointments than you want to hold for May and June. Many activities are going on in May, and many people are adjusting to their summertime schedule in June. Be prepared should some of your parties or appointments rearrange. If you have more parties than you want to hold, you can dovetail or sell them to your team. When you do that, the sales will still be a part of your team’s volume.

By taking the time now to plan, recruit and book more parties or appointments, you can have the summer sales and income you’re dreaming of, along with the carefree spirit of summer. Set time to plan today!
