It’s easy to keep a positive attitude when everything is going great, isn’t it?  Your business is rolling, the family is doing great and there’s no major challenges going on in your life. It’s easy to stay positive and excited when all is well! What is your attitude like when things aren’t going so well?  Your team sales didn’t grow last year, there are challenges with your family, maybe a serious illness has happened to someone you love.  It’s not so easy to keep that positive attitude strong when it’s not so easy.  And that’s the time when your positive attitude means the most to keep you going.

Recently I’ve met people who are keeping their positive attitude in the midst of true-life changing events.

I met a man whose beautiful wife suffers with early onset dementia and is in the dementia care unit at a nursing home. Her intelligent mind is gone and she could be left with no stimulation. Her husband is very positive.  He knows that she won’t be cured and be back to the same person she was; his positive attitude comes from the belief that he can do things to give her comfort and some joy. I watched him over the past 3 years do amazing things for her and you know deep down in her soul, she knows it. This year at Christmas, he had a Christmas tree delivered to her care unit and pushed her around it in her wheel chair so she could put candy canes on it. Even though the decorations weren’t anything near what she did earlier in her life, everyone cheered for her.  Then he and the kids brought their traditional Christmas dinner to her and had a great meal that she ate with gusto.

Why am I sharing this story with you?  It doesn’t matter what you’re facing, it’s your attitude that makes the difference in how you deal with it.

Think about it.  What do you do when life throws you a curve ball?  It’s easy to get down and lose hope when your business isn’t going well or there are challenges with the kids, family or friends.  The only thing you can control during these times is your attitude, which will determine how you will handle it.  As Zig Ziglar always said, “Give yourself a checkup from the neck-up.”  Look inside yourself…. 2015 may be the year to strengthen your attitude.
