By Neil Phillips.

Let’s face it.  We spend too much time scrolling through Facebook like a maniac.  The more we scroll, the more likely we want to lash out at the other idiots who are doing the same thing, AND the most annoying people are in sales. Don’t ya hate:

  • People trying to give away starter kits like candy to children?
  • People wanting you to buy their product because it’s on sale and not because it fits you?
  • People asking questions who don’t care about your answer? They just want to know if someone sees their post.
  • People you haven’t seen in years sending you a message about an excellent opportunity they have for you?
  • People who tag you in pictures, so you have to look even though the pic has nothing to do with you?
  • People who post a story about their cute cat sleeping? The worst. (This has nothing to do with sales, but really: sleeping cats!)

You know you don’t want to be one of THOSE people, yet you aren’t sure what to do.  You are a direct sales leader, and you can’t ignore all of those potential contacts. Here are three ideas to get you on the path to sales productivity on Facebook.

  1. When you post about your business on Facebook, make it about the audience needs and likes and wants and NOT yours. You’re the expert so comment with advice.  Those little like buttons?  Fuhgeddaboudi’em!
  2. Bring your empathy. Let people know you care.
  3. Create Community. Seek people who have a common interest with you and your business.  If you try to get everybody, you’ll get nobody.  Think GROUPS.

Most importantly, chill out.  Save your indignation for your friends and family, not those people on Facebook (except for the ones with stories about their sleeping cat).
