So many direct sellers let us know that they do not want to work their business 40 hours a week.  The majority of the people in direct sales do not want to work 40 hours. They have a full-time job or full-time commitments, and they want to devote 15-20 hours a week to this business.

So the coaching opportunity is, “How can I make the most of the time I do spend in my business?”  Here are some of the many great ideas we have collected through over 30 years in the direct selling profession.

  1. Stick with your schedule. Work when you say you are going to work as if you were handed a schedule at another part-time job.  Too many direct sellers spend too much time thinking about working.
  2. Focus on income-producing activities.  If you have 15 hours to give your business, make sure you are spending the majority of it in those activities that will make you money.
  3. Focus on the people who want to work and do so. No one comes in to be a failure at direct sales.  At the same time, everyone finds their comfort level.  You want to spend your time with the ones who aren’t comfortable.  Support their growth.
  4. When in doubt, recruit.  The whole concept of our business model is that you will make more money if you have a team doing a little.  One hundred people selling on your team will give you more income than your personal sales.
  5. Start delegating now.  Even before you can “afford” to delegate, think about hiring someone to do the $10 an hour job, like data entry, so that you can do the $100 an hour job (selling and recruiting).
  6. Take advantage of every training you can.  There are lots of stories of highly successful direct sellers who sacrificed, ate peanut butter, and slept 6 in a room to get to their conference.  You don’t have to put it all on a charge card.

The simple answer to maximizing your time is to treat your business like a business.  Once you decide to make an income from your direct selling business, you will add the skills to make it happen!
