The thrill and excitement of my direct selling business was compelling.  I LOVED to hold parties, talk on the phone with my customers and team.  I had my company logo plastered everywhere, even on my children’s T-shirts!  My passion became consuming.  I went to bed thinking about creative ways to grow my business and woke up ready to dive in and work.

You may think: I wish I had that kind of passion for my business, or maybe you are thinking that sounds like me.  Passion is a beautiful thing; it makes life exciting.  The challenge was when my business passion took over my life.  I felt like I was working all the time, and so did my children.  I complained about this very thing to my upline when she told me to live by the simple slogan “Work Hard, Play Hard.”  The key is to know when you are working and playing.  This was my first lesson in setting boundaries.

I added a few new categories to my calendar, family time and personal time.  I made sure that every week included at least one block of personal time and each day held one block of family time.  At first, it was hard to ignore the phone, emails, texts, and unfinished work.  Eventually, I discovered that when I did ‘turn off’ and focus on my family and my personal life, I returned to work renewed, refreshed, and with a fresh perspective.  I began accomplishing more in less time, so my business flourished.

My family began to like my business instead of resenting all the time it took away from them.  A bonus was when my team began to want leadership after they saw how much fun my life had become!

Go ahead; I dare you: Play as hard as you work!
