Let’s be honest, it is unlikely you would be where you are in your Direct Sales career without the support of some of loyal customers, or as I like to call them “super fans”. I think that recognizing those people on a regular bases is essential for building long-lasting relationships with them. I wanted to create a quick list of ways you can say “thank you for your support” without breaking the bank or giving away the farm.

  1. Personalized thank you notes: Handwritten notes can be super impactful. When you take the time to write a personalized thank you message it shows your appreciation for their support. Be specific about what you’re thanking them for and make it clear that their business means a lot to you. Cost to you – card & a stamp.
  2. Small token gifts: Who doesn’t love a freebie? Offering a small token of appreciation like a sample product with their next purchase can go a long way in showing your customers that you value their business. I am not a fan of giving discounts because you do not want to “train” your customers to only buy from you when there is a discount. A free gift you can add and take away at any time without consequence.
  3. Social media shoutouts: Give your customers a public shoutout on social media by tagging them in a post on social media and thank them for their support. This not only shows your appreciation but also helps to build brand loyalty and credibility.
  4. Referral rewards: Encourage your customers to refer their friends and family to your business by offering a referral reward. Create your own referral reward program and share it regularly with your customers. The rewards could be free sample products, gift certificates to redeem for future purchases, something exclusive to you, etc.
  5. Handwritten gift certificates: Show your customers how much you value their support by giving them a handwritten gift certificate. This could be for a specific dollar amount or a free product of their choice. You can print these from your computer or pick up a pad of gift certificates at your local office supply store
  6. Personalized gifts: If you know your customers well, consider giving them a personalized gift that they’ll love. For example: Are they into coffee mugs? Get them a mug and put your product or a gift certificate in it.
  7. Loyalty programs: Implement a loyalty program that rewards your customers for their repeat business. This could include free products or even early access to new releases. This is different from the referral rewards program because this loyalty rewards program rewards them for buying from you, the referral rewards program rewards them for referring others to you.
  8. Exclusive events: Host exclusive events for your top customers, like a private sale, a product launch party, or even a fun event like an in-person Host Appreciation Event, Customer Appreciation Event, wine tasting or cooking class.
  9. Handwritten holiday cards: Send your customers a handwritten holiday card thanking them for their support throughout the year, this simple gesture can go a long way in building strong relationships.
  10. Give back to the community: Show your customers that you care about more than just your business by giving back to the community. You can give back by volunteering at a local charity you are interested in or donating a portion of your profits to a cause that’s important to you and/or your customers.

This list is really just a jumping off point to help get your mind moving, get creative and try to make a touchpoint with every customer a minimum of 4x over the course of a year to commit to actively building a relationship with them.
