When was the last time you made a list of your five favorite words? Your list says a lot about you. Your list is a glimpse of your feelings and thoughts. It’s your laser focus. You might even call it a strong glimpse into your “why.” Here are some that top my list.
As many of you know, one of my favorite words is “Cool.” During my career, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring and coaching many people. I’ve heard stories of courage, of people beating the odds and becoming successful, and seen others grow tremendously in their leadership and business skills. I’ve found that everyone has a story, and people are fantastic! So, I tell them, “Cool!” It is the one word that says it all.
I’ve gotten a lot of kidding because I use the word so much. It’s the one word that most describes how I feel. So when I say, “You are cool!” or “What you did was so cool,” I mean it! When I say cool, I’m sharing with others that I think they are lovely, unique, and inspiring, and what they are doing is incredible, fascinating, outstanding, and much more. I’ve found that almost everyone likes to be reminded of their coolness.
I also wanted to share the quotation that helped me the most during my career that comes from Zig Ziglar. I was introduced to it early in my career when I thought everything was about me and what I wanted or needed. “I” wanted to be successful, and “I” would get it done.
Zig Ziglar pointed out, “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” Changing my attitude to what success was about made a difference in my career and success in direct selling. I’m so thankful to those who were there to share those principles with us so we could pass them on to others.
These are the words and quotations that have guided me during my career and in my life. I hope they help as you continue your leadership journey.
