So many of you had snow on the first day of spring! Sitting in the warm Texas air, I watched Facebook posts with mounds of snow, icy roads, and more snow coming down.  For some of you, that is a frightening picture.  For others, the thought of snow brings a smile to your face.  I guess it is how we look at things.

Think about the occasional obstacles that happen in your business.  Product delays, rescheduled parties, glitches in the website, or low party attendance can certainly become mountains of snow that need to be cleared.

Over the years, I have found that the way we view obstacles in our business is almost as important as the way we deal with them.  Do you treat obstacles as a stone wall or just a mound of snow that needs to be moved?  Do you feel trapped by circumstances, or do you see them as an opportunity to grow?

Obstacles are rarely permanent.  A really good friend of mine often reminds me that “This too, will pass.”  Throughout the years, just remembering that circumstances won’t last forever has helped me take that big breath and move them out of the way.

Obstacles aren’t insurmountable unless they are insurmountable in our minds.  It only takes a few minutes to think of people who have overcome extreme difficulties in life to realize the power we have to triumph over struggles.

Sometimes we have to go through the obstacles to grow.  As much as you hate to admit it, some of the biggest obstacles in your business became the turning point for your success.  Learning to overcome objections, serving difficult customers, and working through problems have all contributed to your character.

Sometimes we just need to step back, take a deep breath and recognize what we can do.  We may be able to change the situation, or we may be able to change the way we react.  Sometimes, we may need to embrace those things that make us crazy and view them as positive influences in our leadership.

How about you?  What obstacle do you need to clear out?
