How do you view procrastination?

Do you justify your procrastination? “I guess I was just born to procrastinate.”

Do you feel guilty about your procrastination? “I am such a loser. I hate that I procrastinate.”

Do you blame others for your procrastination? “It isn’t my fault; I just have some many things on my plate.”

Do you feel you cannot change? “I have been a procrastinator all my life, and I don’t think I can change.”

Do you avoid thinking about it? “I will get back to you tomorrow on that one.”

The first step in overcoming procrastination is to admit that you are doing it, then mentally reframe the way you view procrastination.

Procrastination is not a character flaw. Guilt and remorse will not serve you. Think of procrastination as a necklace tied up in knots – do not procrastinate now and put it back in the drawer.

To untangle a necklace, you start by shaking it up a bit so you can find the first knot. With procrastination, you may want to shake things up a bit and tackle one piece first. Above all else, be patient. It takes time to change behaviors.
