We all want new customers. If you are in a party plan, you know that hostess coaching for new faces is the easiest way to meet new people. If you are not in a party plan or you want to broaden your customer base away from parties, we have an activity that has supported our clients.

First, set a timer for 10 minutes. Now begin to create a list of where your ideal customers go. Don’t say “everywhere.” Be specific.

For example, if you are into skincare and your ideal clients are working moms, you will find them at offices, school events, gymnastics, sporting events, and yoga.

If you sell nutritional supplements and your ideal clients are working people who are health conscious, you will find them at the gym, sporting events, offices, schools, and athletic conventions.

Get it?

After creating this list of where your clients are, think of people you know in these places so that you can connect with them. Make plans to be in those places.

Another successful way to increase your customer base is to think of people who don’t know you but know someone you know. For example, I don’t know my sister-in-law’s friends personally, but they would make a connection if I introduced myself as Jeri’s sister-in-law.

Many direct sellers have found great benefits in asking for referrals. Remember to ask for the kind of person you are seeking. If you have a customer who loves your product, don’t just ask, “who do you know who would like product ABC?” Provide some context for the referral.

  • “Who do you know who has the same issues as you?”
  • “Who do you know who needs to accessorize?”
  • “Who do you know who is looking to lose weight?”
  • “Who do you know owns a home and wants to save money on ….?”

Be aware of potential customers everywhere you go. You will see the connections and then start conversations about them. Ultimately, they will come around to asking you what you do.
