Thank you for exploring the different demographics you can reach with your direct selling business. Each Wednesday, we will explore some new areas to consider and why they may be an important target to your direct selling venture over the next five weeks.

So, sit back for a moment, please silence your phone, and get comfortable as we explore this Wednesday’s demographic, Boomers.

When we hear the word “Boomer,” it brings with it a particular reaction. Many see it as a fond place for connecting, while others may find this word stressful. Why? Each generation has a different general way of seeing their world. Within each generation, you will find opportunities for your business and in personal and team growth. When we step into another’s world, we can make a connection, find common ground and serve the needs of others. And the Boomers’ needs are significant right now.

As Forbes points out in their July 15th, 2022, article, “The Long and Short of It,” “the first two quarters of 2022 were among the worst for equity markets dating back over 50 years.” Furthermore, food and gas prices rose beyond expectations. This generation, many of whom are on a fixed income, is being squeezed and needs some relief. Their friends are also in the same boat. Boomers tend to keep friendships longer, and if you can help one Boomer, it stands to reason that more will follow.

The long and the short of it:

  • Boomer investments are taking a huge hit, and they do not have as much time on their side to gain back what they are losing.
  • Many Boomers are on a fixed income which does not match up with the rising costs of fuel, food, energy, housing, and the list keeps growing.
  • Boomers tend to keep their friendships for lengthy periods, so if you can help one out, they will have a good chance of discussing it with their friends.

So, where do you and your business come in? If you have a sincere heart for this older generation, then you may be able to serve them in a way many people and organizations fall short.

  • Connect your product or service to one of their needs: health, additional money opportunities, sense of community.
  • Commit your team to volunteer for a local charity that helps this segment of our population in need.
  • Donate food and supplies.
  • Send out flyers with your contact info to pick up unused walkers and rollators and donate them to a local service for the aged.
  • Contact your local senior center and introduce your product or service.

There are so many ways to serve, and, in the process, you help develop awareness and leadership skills within yourself and within your team. When your team has a purpose to rally behind, it is beautiful to see your sense of community growing. When purpose meets action, the sky is the limit.
