We all want to succeed! Each of you has your own definition of success: earning enough money to buy a dream home, owning your own business, raising a family, or helping others improve their lives.  Regardless of how you define success in terms of your own life, the guidelines that follow are sure to help you get there.

  1. Each day, work to communicate more effectively with others.  This includes talking and listening.  Stephen Covey said, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” What do you need to do to improve one part of your communication with others?
  2. Be passionate about the things you consider important.  Be very clear about what is important to you.  Knowing your core values is key to finding your definition of success and achieving it.  What are your three core values?  Don’t know?  You may want to work with a coach to help you discover them.
  3. Maintain a detailed plan of action.  Know at all times your destination, what you are doing, and what you need to do next.
  4. Appreciate others.  You are sure to rely on the help of countless people as you travel the road to success.  Be grateful for the help. Be willing and able to return the favors.
  5. Be willing to accept criticism. Always believe that other people’s points of view are valid. There is a grain of truth in each bit of criticism, even if it to be conscious of others’ insecurities. Never let pride stand in the way of good advice, and always be willing to admit your mistakes.
