I loved my opportunity and my team most of the time. There were times, however, when things weren’t going as I wanted, i.e., when we weren’t growing, when I was handling more issues than usual, or when there weren’t many striving for higher goals. I found these times very challenging, and sometimes I even thought about quitting and doing something else. Thank goodness I didn’t do that!

The first time it happened, I knew I had to figure out what would make my business FUN again. For me, finding and working with people with dreams and goals was the most fun. I loved helping them get what they wanted from the business. When I looked at my calendar, I spent more time doing tasks, planning meetings, and developing training and systems than working with those who wanted more.

When I got back to doing the fun activities for me, I knew we would begin to have fun as a team again. Here are some things that helped get the FUN back:

Reconnect with those who wanted “more” to clarify their “what and why.” Become very intentional about finding others who want more. Set an action plan to help reach their dreams and goals. Once you take the focus off of yourself and begin focusing on others, making their dreams come true, you’ll find new energy and inspiration. And you will be having fun with your team again!

Create fun challenges with fun payoffs. Most people join direct sales because it’s fun. It’s a break from their job or their family. Add some fun team activities to your calendar. When you give the team a challenge, instead of giving a gift to those who made it, the payoff can be lunch together, an ice cream social, or even bowling or miniature golf. These activities built relationships, and those relationships built retention. Also, having fun together creates transparency. Your team gets to see the authentic person you are, and you see the same in them.

For your team members who don’t live close by, think about how you can make your Zoom meetings crazy and FUN to build relationships among the team.

Work in the field with those who want “more.” Never work alone. Bring them with you on recruiting and leadership interviews, let them help you at parties, and make 3-way calls together. Go to team meetings, give challenges, and CELEBRATE together.

Remember, as a leader, you are an inspiration to your team. When you become involved in supporting them in achieving their “dreams and goals.” they perform better, and you will have FUN again.
