Climbing to the top isn’t all fun and games. It takes effort and sacrifice. One of the best things I learned from my upline was to ask myself and others, “What will you give up to achieve that goal?” Success is more than hard work; it involves making hard choices and letting go of some things we like and want to achieve more.

As I climbed up the leadership ladder in the early days of my business, the building momentum kept me excited and energized, and I never ‘missed’ what I was missing. I was happy to work long hours, give up some hobbies for success in my business and slant my life balance in the direction of work. Trouble hit when I achieved my dream and became content. I was surprised to discover that sacrifice doesn’t end when you get to the top. It requires even more sacrifice to stay there.

Once I arrived at my position, I got comfortable and stopped stretching and growing. I fell prey to “destination disease.” I got comfortable, and I was going backward since I wasn’t growing. My team’s volume and size began to decline. Fortunately, I learned about the Law of Sacrifice.

“If a leader has to give up to go up, they have to give up, even more to stay up.”

~John Maxwell.

When I sacrificed some of my comfort, time, and resources for the team’s betterment, growth began again. I became a passionate student of leadership, which made all the difference.

If you are not where you would like to be in your business or are taking on a challenging new goal, be sure to ask yourself, “What must I give up or sacrifice to make this happen?” Leadership requires sacrifice.

One thing that leaders often sacrifice is the time to grow their skills and abilities. When was the last time you read an article, watched a video, or listened to a podcast on leadership? Team Connections wants to support you in keeping personal growth as part of your leadership journey.
