We have just had a reprieve in the hot weather this week in the Dallas area.  Summer is here!  There are lots of activities that allow us to get out and see people, make new connections, renew customer relationships, and start working on the fall.

What?

Yes, proactive leaders in direct sales are always looking to the next three months or the upcoming season.  Dana and I call it “now and later” thinking.

  1.  Plan.  Make time each week to look at the coming weeks and where you want to be in the next three months.  As a leader, one of the most powerful tools you have is to step back every week and look to the future.  It is so easy to get so busy in the day to day of your business that you can forget to see what is coming up.  Right now is your opportunity to “slow down so you can speed up.”
  2. Strategize. Think about what you are doing now to set up the next three months.  Do you need to focus now on personal recruiting so that you can grow leadership in the coming months?  Do you have a new batch of leaders who can take off?
  3. Anticipate. Look at the adjustments needed for the next three months.  Think about how upcoming schedule changes like school, weekend activities, and holidays affect your meetings and recruiting.
  4. Communicate.  Make sure you are sharing short and long term vision with your team. Don’t fall prey to the urgent deadlines.  Find ways to help your sales team become proactive in their plans for the fall.

You will feel so much more in control of your business if you take time to plan for the “now and later.”
