I am just starting my holiday thinking and planning. We’ll visit family in Vermont to get some snow and a chance to sit by the wood stove. When I think about what can happen in the fall, I often think of a wood stove. You can build a fire, but you must keep it going to produce the desired results.
To build momentum, think about feeding a fire to keep it going.
- Feed the fire first thing in the morning. Get up and be proactive in the morning. Answering emails is often reactive, so get up and have plans to get out and get busy. What’s the essential fuel for today’s fire?
- Feed the fire throughout the day. Make sure you call key players in your business during the day. Don’t underestimate the power of your voice. Your calls, even to voice mail, are a positive reminder that you are their number one fan. How will you stoke your success higher?
- Feed the fire in the evening. This is a perfect time for you to stop and think of what you accomplished in the day and decide what is essential, not just urgent, to achieve the next day. What do you see in the embers of the day?
Make time to work on the parts of your business that are NOT appointments. What do I mean? Prospecting and calling to set appointments with prospective team members, future leaders, and new customers are essential things you may not have “in a schedule,” but they represent the fuel to keep the fire going.
What are the top three things you will do to keep your fire going?
