It is December and many of you are concerned about making your numbers, finishing the year strong, and keeping your team engaged.  If you don’t keep your team engaged, you run the risk of losing them, missing sales goals, and starting 2020 with a whimper.

How can you keep people excited, engaged, and working?

There is no magic formula, but you do need to get to know them.  When you discover what they want, what makes them tick, and when they want it, you can really help them stay engaged.  Zig  Ziglar said, “You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.”

I often coach leaders and they tell me about a person who wants to leave their job. I am surprised when I ask, “What will it take for them to leave?” and they answer, “I haven’t asked.”

Find out what it will take and then you can plan a strategy to leave the job.

I hear leaders say, “she wants to make money,” and then not know how much or when she wants to earn.

On the other hand, when you know what someone wants you will not be pushy.  One leader I coach was worried about pushing a new person to advance.  She tried something new and found out what the person wanted, told her she could do it in record time if she worked and then worked with her until she accomplished the goal.

I received a copy of the email sent by her new Team Leader to the corporate office.  Here is a portion of it.

“I’m so EXCITED about this business, I just can’t stand it. I will have the BEST story to share – I’ve been involved with SO MANY other direct sales companies before this. I just keep saying, ‘there is just something different about (name removed).’ But truly, I would not have been as successful without the continued support from (my client).”

Don’t ever underestimate knowing what people want.  Don’t ever underestimate the power of your influence.
