Have you set your goals for the New Year? I don’t mean resolutions.  Have you turned those wishes into actual goals? What do you hope to achieve for yourself? What do you want for your family? What do you want your business to look like as you close this year?

If you can easily answer these questions, you probably already realize that setting specific goals is the first step toward achieving them. If you’re not sure what your specific goals are, now is the perfect time to think about what you want to accomplish in 2021.

Here are some guidelines that will help you define your goals:

  1. A goal can be anything that you have yet to achieve, as long as it contributes to the improvement of some aspect of your life; your personal sales, your relationships with others, your sponsoring efforts, or your family time.
  2. Goals should be ambitious but realistic. You’ll want to set goals high enough to qualify as true achievements, but you’ll want to avoid goals that are virtually impossible.
  3. Dedicate sufficient time to defining your goals, and write them down. Do your best to avoid changing your goals once you’ve set them. Although your strategies for reaching your goals may change over time, you should always keep a worthy goal in sight.
  4. Goals are born of dreams, desires, and needs. Ask yourself what you really want in life—then ask yourself how you can get there. This is the essence of setting goals.
  5. Once you’ve set specific goals, make an effort to constantly remind yourself of what it will be like to achieve them. In other words, “keep your eyes on the prize.”
